FASHION & MAKEOVERS

Glamour photography is a genre of photography in which the subjects, usually female, are portrayed in erotic or exciting ways ranging from fully clothed to nude, but in ways that either may conceal or may otherwise not especially draw attention to the subjects’ breasts and buttocks.

That’s the definition of “glamour photography” you’ll find if you look it up on Wikipedia.  But that’s kinda scary (erotic…nude…breasts…eeeeek), and definitely NOT what I mean when I say “glamour photography”.

My work is all about combining fashion and makeovers.  I absolutely love giving women of all ages the rare opportunity to do something for themselves.  Usually they’re the ones taking the photos, so they rarely end up in photo albums—where’s mom?  This way, they get to play dress-up and be a pampered super model for the day!  I use natural lighting (as much as possible) and find the most flattering poses that accentuate everybody’s best features — their eyes and smiles.

I adored makeup.  My girlfriends and I would sit in the back of the grade eight science class and do our makeup (We always finished our work early, so our teacher let it slide. We love you, Mr. Marantz.)  I even experimented with new techniques on my roommates at university.  I’d line them up on the floor of our hallway at residence and give them makeovers (I’m thinking that might explain why I failed my first year of sciences at UBC. Hope my parents aren’t reading this blog post!!!).  It’s no wonder that I ended up passionate about this art genre! I probably should have figured that out in grade eight!!![/vc_column][/vc_row]

Most women (yeah, probably even Angelina Jolie) tend to criticize the way they look.  I’m definitely guilty of that.  I don’t think any of us ever wake up and look in the mirror saying, “Damn, girl. You’re lookin’ hot, hot, hot today.  Better get a picture taken.”  What we don’t really know is how other people see us.

Our families and friends love us, just the way we are (unless they’re complete jerks).  They look at us and see our heart and soul, not the extra 20 pounds we’re carrying on our hips or the way that little scar on our chin gets red on cold days.  They’re seeing us with loving eyes.  And that’s the way we need to start looking at ourselves.  I see it in a woman’s eyes when I get the perfect shot of her.  That twinkle says everything.

I absolutely passionately believe that every woman deserves to see herself looking amazing.  That “glamour” portrait will be cherished for generations.
